The entrance to Christ Church Meadow from St. Aldates is always packed with tourists snapping photos of Christ Church College or taking selfies among the flowers in the War Memorial Garden. I was not able to properly render justice to the remarkable view here. In my defense, there are so many levels of vegetation and building overlapping.

I haven't yet tried to paddle on my SUP on the Oxford Canal, but it is definetely on my bucket list. This is a view from Jericho, the tower bell of St. Barnabas tower is visible on the back ground. There are loads of narrow boats parked along both sides of the canal. The folks living on those boats seem really chill.

Leaving the wide open space of Christ Church Meadow, you can use a small gate that only one person can go through at a time. Once you pass through, you'll find yourself in a narrow walking path. The tall tower of Merton College Chapel sticks out above the trees, just behind a thick row of bushes. A bunch of tourists were going through this path that day. One guy even stopped and asked me for directions.

These days the weather is crazy, one moment is sunny and hot, the next is raining, the next again is windy and chilly, then sunny again. Few minutes into drawing the backside of the Sheldonian theater, a couple of raindrops (while sunny) made me move and run for cover and start again from another perspective. I like the stone heads on top of each pillar (there are more that the ones visible here, 13 in total). I was told they depict roman emperors, but it is not really sure. They are not the original ones from the 1669: They were ruined after two centuries of bad weather and got replaced with copies made by an even weaker stone type, that lasted a shorter time. These are the third generation ones, placed on the pillars in the 70s.

Oriel college is one of the oldest colleges of Oxford. This particular view of its entrance, with the belltower of St. Mary looming in the background, has been drawn or photographed many times in the past. It is almost uncanny to see how little this view changed over centuries. I added my snapshot from 2023 to the list.
